NYPD School Safety Agent Program

The NYPD and John Jay College of Criminal Justice are offering a program for NYPD School Safety Agents (SSA).  The School Safety Agent Program is an educational opportunity for eligible active NYPD School Safety Agents interested in earning credits towards a bachelor's degree.  The program covers the tuition and textbook costs for up to 15 college credits at John Jay College.  


Students enrolled in the SSA Program may enroll in a bachelor's degree at John Jay College (click here to learn more about the bachelor degree programs offered at John Jay College).  Courses are offered during the day, evening, weekend and online.  Students with an associate's degree may be eligible for the Online Security Management program.  


Students have successfully completed at least 45 college credits and are required to meet the John Jay College admission criteria listed below:

  • Minimum cumulative grade point average of a 2.0
  • Must have successfully completed a college-level English and Math course with at least a "C" or better, OR have passed CUNY Math and/or English assessment tests from a CUNY institution

Students interested in applying for the tuition-free program are required to submit all of the following:

  • Online interest form by clicking here
  • Copy of NYPD School Safety Agent ID via email to jtavarez@jjay.cuny.edu
  • Official college transcripts from all colleges attended
  • Proof of high school graduation (official diploma by submitting it in person OR by sending official high school transcripts with graduation date)
